Out now: Top tips (1)

February 1, 2010  This month our Bashful Blagger starts a brand new series called Top Tips for Freelancers. Part one begins: There are two certain Ds in a freelancer’s life. The first one, the big D, happens to us all in the end. Little D in the freelancer’s lexicon stands for Dry, as in Dry Spells, those unplanned periods without work that strike deadly fear into the freelancer's heart.... If you’re wondering how to survive a dry spell, read more here

Length matters

June 26, 2009  Do you believe that polysyllables pack more punch? Are you convinced that Big Words = Big Brains? If you stick to using long words, will people think you are smarter than other writers? Is this making your  hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia play up? Find the cure -- based on empirical evidence -- in the latest episode of the Bashful Blagger: Length matters.

Kiwi accent

June 18, 2009  The Bashful Blagger goes back to her roots and explains why she has two homelands, New Zealand and the Netherlands. The two countries may be as far apart as you can get in this world, but they share a strong connection, both historical and sentimental. So that explains the Blagger's accent! Listen to a good old Kiwi accent (amongst many others) right here!

Cross word

June 12, 2009  What is the one perfect word the Bashful Blagger uses to cross telemarketers when they won't take NO for an answer? And -- calling all editors -- how many words can you edit an hour? Can you beat the Blagger's editing speed benchmarks (courtesy of David McClintock of Wordsupply)? Find the answers to both of these questions in this week's episode of the Bashful Blagger!

Sex symbol

June 4, 2009   Are you as hot for words as the Bashful Blagger's replacement for this week?  Watch and listen to what a sexy teacher in linguistics and entymology has to say about the origins of the name of a very small but very useful symbol in the English language. You won't regret meeting Marina Orlova, my dear students, and that's a promise!

May 17, 2009  Last Thursday we expressed a vote of thanks to the very many recipients of the latest NEEDSer Newsflash who wrote back saying how much they were enjoying reading NEEDSer's blog, the Bashful Blagger. Find out by reading last week's episode of the Bashful Blagger. And while you're at it, consider this question: Are you comments welcome? What do you think?

Orange everywhere

April 30, 2009  Today's date marks Queens Day in the Netherlands, a national holiday that celebrates the birthday of Queen Beatrix's very popular mother, Queen Juliana, and Beatrix's own succession to the throne in 1980. It's a day filled with revelry, fun and the colour orange, all over the country. Find out why the Dutch turn orange on Koninginnedag in the latest posting from the Bashful Blagger, Cryptic colour.

"Ezine" update

March 27, 2009  NEEDSer now has five articles up and running on EzineArticles.com. The informative series is proving to be very popular with readers from all over the world. Check these articles out for yourself by clicking now on "The ABCs of Self-Editing".

Expert author

March 10, 2009 NEEDSer’s Ragini Werner has become an expert author on EzineArticles.com with the publication of two original articles in her field of expertise: text revision. EzineArticles.com is an established and popular American website. In business since 1999, this “Mothership of Article Directories” attracts a daily audience of hundreds of thousands of unique visitors. This is potentially massive exposure for the articles published or syndicated by the site. But not every submission is successful. Quality matters. An editorial team reviews every single article and won’t hesitate to reject any that do not meet the editorial guidelines. The editors also double check vital aspects (grammar, spelling, no dead links, etc.) to ensure editorial integrity. NEEDSer’s third article is currently undergoing editorial review while another two articles are in the works. Click now on NEEDSer at EzineArticles.com to explore our new informative series for writers entitled “The ABCs of Self-Editing”.

We AIM to please

March 8, 2009  AIM is the fastest-growing search engine in the world--its network already consists of some 750 specialized search sites. The NEEDSer site is listed on AIM as well as several other search engines, including Google and Yahoo. We welcome feedback from visitors to our site and, for starters, invite you to rate our listing on AIM. You can do so by clicking on the word "Rate" at the top of our Links page or right away here simply by clicking on Rate Us.

NEEDSer ranks high in Google Directory

March 6, 2009 Google Directory rates NEEDSer as “a high quality site worth checking out.” The 1.5 million URLs listed in the directory are ordered according to their importance, as determined by Google's patented PageRank technology. This ensures that the most relevant and highly regarded sites are not buried deep inside an alphabetical listing. NEEDSer is ranked close to the top--second--in the category “Editing & Proofreading > Europe”. This puts us above all but one competitor in the UK and ahead of all competitors on the continent, including sites in Norway, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. Google is the search engine used most often in the Netherlands, so the top ranking is great news for Dutch clients. It is relatively easy for them to find and identify NEEDSer as a top quality, native-English editing service.
